On October 7, 1989, at the Southern California Regional Convention (held in Orange County October 6, 7, and 8), the Women’s Willingness Group was born. This was a joint meeting of SA and S-Anon women. An S-Anon woman shared her (my) story in a more open way than I had ever been able to share my story in the SA meetings I’ve been attending for four years. We found that our issues are not separate; we are not separate. If I’m an SA, I’m also an S-Anon. Recovery is not isolated, separated, or divided; it is the end of failure to connect with ourselves and others. This gave me an opportunity for more rigorous honesty in my sharing and an appropriate place for it. (The Women’s Willingness meeting has already started in the Los Angeles area.)
