Keeping It Simple on Long Island, NY

The conference last September was excellent. Mike D. from upstate NY kicked off the day with a great talk on the importance of working the Twelve Steps. The theme of the convention was: “The Importance of Working the 12 Steps — the Original Approach.” That meant we got back to the basics of the original program of AA by using the 12 Steps, the 10 points of Chapter 5 in the Big Book, and the 4 Absolutes of the Oxford Group, where Bill, Bob, and Ebby got sober.

The whole day was filled with spiritual emphasis, not psychology. Thank God we have come a long way on Long Island to keep things simple — our primary purpose is to stay sexually sober and to help other sexaholics to achieve sexual sobriety. That’s all we can do here. We’re not equipped to help with finances, jobs, childhood issues, therapy, office issues, medication issues. When you accept this, like I did, the spiritual conversion can begin to happen and a healing can take place in our lives, our groups, our homes, etc.

We also thank Roy K. for coming to Long Island. He made an outstanding, positive spiritual impact on this area. Other areas that were represented at the convention were NYC, NJ, PA, Westchester, Staten Island, Conn., Calif., and upstate NY. Roy K. wrapped up the day with a great talk on the insidious part of our lust. Again the message came back to a radical approach to working the 12 Steps.

If you’re looking for healing in your life and do not want to just flounder like I did before I took a more serious approach to these Steps, I suggest you get going on this way of life.
