A Truly Blessed Addition

A Truly Blessed Addition

When Zoom meetings started I was blessed to attend one or more meetings per day including for the first time a women’s only meeting. I didn’t have much experience attending meetings with other SA sisters. It was beautiful.

A daily meeting I attended regularly had a handful of regular sisters and we discussed starting an offshoot women’s only meeting. So “Bozos on the Bus Women” was created. It is a small meeting integral to my recovery. We share on topics that we’d likely not share in mixed meetings. We also laugh a lot. I feel very close to these women from all corners of the world, our commonality being sexaholics.

I encourage my sponsees to attend mixed meetings and the majority of mine are. However, women’s only meetings have been a true blessing to me and where I first met my current sponsor. Women’s shares are a little different and women’s only meetings enable the expression of that uniqueness.

When I came into the program in 2016, I was the only woman in my local meeting. I learned how to act properly around men and entered the room just before the meeting started and left right after. By the grace of God I’ve stayed sober since. Some women have been traumatized and need the safety of a women’s only group. With time I encourage them to expand and attend mixed meetings.

I understand the importance of mixed meetings, however I also acknowledge the place women’s only meetings hold in my recovery work. The sharing is intimate, we can discuss issues that we as women relate to and we learn how to interact healthily with other women. Women’s only meetings have been a truly blessed addition to my recovery and for the women who choose to attend them.

Keep coming back.
