What’s Going On in SA

Recovery is Recovering Together

“What can we do so that more women attend our meetings? What can we do to support women in SA? What can we give women when they come into our meetings? What are we doing wrong that women leave our meetings? How can we encourage more women in service?”

These are some of the questions that members of the Public Information Committee (PIC) have heard from SA members. It seems there is great interest to grow in this area with little information or help.

With this in mind, the PIC will be hosting a workshop on mixed settings at the LA SA/S-Anon International Convention in July. The workshop is called “Recovery is Recovering Together” and its goal is to share the committee’s experiences in needing mixed settings for our own recovery, the transformations by serving in those settings, and how we carry this message of recovery in order to keep what we have received.

We will be sharing how making healthy spaces geared for men and women is the foundation with which groups and intergroups can build upon. Vital to this work is integrating healthy spaces into all three legacies of interactions: recovery, unity, and service. Working in one area alone stunts our growth and handicaps members’ accessibility to healthy mixed settings.

The workshop will provide steps that individuals, groups, intergroups, and those in the service structure can take that will help lay the groundwork. We will also be providing a variety of helpful and long-awaited resources. Those resources include a workshop brochure for members new in this area of recovery. It provides suggested actions in all three legacies that members can choose from. One resource is a digital checklist with additional steps for more experienced members. Many items on the checklist will come with links to additional information such as audio, documents, and websites. Another resource is an album of audio on mixed settings from oldtimers and other SA members. Members will receive a Women’s Welcome brochure with helpful information and links that groups can print, make copies of, and hand out to newcomer women who walk into their meetings. All these resources will be accessible on our workshop webpage, www.linktr.ee/recoveryisrecoveringtogether, along with the option to request a workshop for your group or intergroup.

We look forward to seeing you there!
