Editor’s Corner

The October 2026 edition of ESSAY Magazine celebrates that wonderful moment when we said “yes” to the God of our understanding. Nothing would ever be the same after that. The end of an old way of life gave way to a new one.

Applying humility generously to the inflammation of ego is how one member describes this deflating experience. Another member navigates his way through the day using the compass of yuck or yum. Following God’s will led to the shocking accident of a loved one hearing an SA audio, and another discovered that selflessness sometimes means telling others “no.”

Also in this edition, an SA Trustee shares a report on the challenges women have in SA. Another member shares how Concept Five gives members the right to speak up when they disagree with a decision from the group conscience. Not only do they have the right to speak up, but they have the responsibility to voice their concerns even when feeling intimated from the louder members in the room.

None of these experiences of recovery would have happened were it not for that simple yet giant decision. Join us as we trudge the road of Happy Destiny!
