An Approach for Intergroups and Individual Meetings
We have seen many miracles. As a worldwide fellowship, SA carries some heavy responsibility. The Support for Institutions and Professionals Committee (SIP) is organized to address one of these responsibilities head on: sharing our message with various helping professionals and larger institutions. We, who have personally benefited from the miracles of the 12 Steps can now take part in informing those who help people every day.
Research just this year indicates that pornography is a $97 billion dollar global industry and that 35% of all downloads across the internet are related to porn. Just imagine all the men and women who are addicted to lust! But how many doctors, pastors, therapists, or social workers know about SA, much less suggest it to the lust-addicted people they serve?
SIP has developed methods and professional-quality material to help address this responsibility we bear to “carry the message.” At a recent retreat in Kansas City, event organizers invited local professionals to meet with a panel from SA and S-Anon who described our program via first-hand accounts. Using a format developed by SIP, the panel members briefly shared their stories and answered many important questions from the visiting professionals. Good impressions were made, solid information was disseminated, and everyone involved left the event uplifted.
Would your meeting or intergroup consider organizing a similar panel discussion for hospitals, doctors, community health centers, therapist associations, clergy, interfaith groups, and/or other professionals and institutions? The SIP committee will help! We will provide everything you need, including templates for letters to professionals and a general format for an informative panel discussion.
