Dear SA Family: With a heavy heart, I’m sharing the sad news of the deaths of Roy K.’s son Howard, Howard’s wife, and their son. Thank you all for your prayers, respect, love, and kind thoughts now and in the future for the family.
Dear SA Fellowship: For years, our fellowship was struggling to balance the budget, and we relied on the Quarterly Appeal to build our prudent reserve. Since then, our members have stepped forward to build a strong financial base. Recently however we have seen a slight softening of member contributions to SAICO, reflecting a shift toward addressing local service needs during these hard times.
Dear Fellow SA Members: The General Delegate Assembly met on Thursday and Friday, July 26-27, prior to the July convention. Attendees included Delegates, Alternates, Trustees, Trustee nominees, representatives from SAICO, and observers.
Many AA groups have a “Grapevine Rep” (GvR). The AA Service Manual describes that servant’s role as follows: “The GvR’s job is to make sure that members are aware of the Fellowship’s international journal and the enhancements to sobriety it offers… It is anticipated that each AA group would have a GvR and at least one subscription to the magazine” (AA Service Manual, Rev. 1991, S85).
Dear Fellow SA Members, 2011 was financially a very good year for SAICO operations. We finished the year with a $4,088 net gain compared to a budgeted $4,300 net loss. Total revenue exceeded budget by just under $15,000 (6.4%). Increased literature sales and ESSAY subscriptions accounted for $12,500 of the revenue excess. Convention revenues accounted for the remainder.
Dear Fellow SA Members: We have received requests to check different websites that offer free PDF downloads of the SA White Book and sell SA literature from locations other than SAICO online and SA Publications.
To The Fellowship: Your trusted servants at SAICO wish to thank the fellowship for stepping forward to support the Quarterly Appeal during our time of financial need over the past seven years.
The SACFC has been active in finding new ways to help carry the message inside prison walls. We recently developed a form letter that CFC representatives can use for contacting their local prison commissioners. We plan to post the letter to make it easily accessible to regional CFCs.
Dear Fellow SA Members: This past year I have been blessed to attend many home group meetings, business meetings, and service meetings. As I reflect on my gratitude for the blessings and peace I find throughout our fellowship, I would like to offer a meditation on the topic of “meetings” from the writings of Roy K., published in Discovering the Principles: Our Growing Experience with the Traditions.
Hi all, A personal highlight from this year’s GDA was sharing how our Higher Power has once again ensured the financial health of our fellowship. In quiet that morning, I’d read “We have ceased fighting anything or anyone. . . . We feel as though we had been placed in a position of neutrality—safe and protected” (AA 84-85).
