Service Structure Committee Update

There has been a surge of interest in SA for unity through representation. Many are asking how they can start an intergroup or communicate with other people in their region. The answers will come; the key is willingness and an open mind. Every area can do what best suits their current situation. The overall goal is to have each SA group represented in their respective regional assembly this year.

Literature Committee Update

The Literature Committee is considering a new book for SA that would address such topics as developing healthy groups, guidelines for meetings, sponsorship, helping newcomers, a history of SA, and more. Parts of Discovering the Principles and the SA Meeting Guide will also be included. But help is needed from each group (and Intergroup).

Corrections Committee Update

Hi, my name is Gary G., and I’m a gratefully recovering sexaholic from Cleveland, OH. With the help of God and this Fellowship, I’ve been sexually sober since April 1993. I have been attending SA meetings regularly since November 1991. In early 1994, I joined with a group of SA members from northeast Ohio, who were attending SA meetings within two prisons near Cleveland.

What’s Going On in SA

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the fellowship for its deep concern during the recent earthquake. Many of our members sustained terrible damage, and the total loss of their homes and possessions. And yet, these are some of the members calling Central Office to offer assistance if needed.

New Committees Offer Opportunity for Service

A good response was noted at the SA International Conference in New York to an appeal for volunteers to serve on service committees. The following is from a report of the conference business meeting, held on January 9, 1993:

Invitation to Service

There’s a program saying that goes, “The road narrows, but the vistas get more beautiful.” This is true not only in personal recovery but in the life of our fellowship. There have always been tough roads to travel in SA, but they’ve led to new and more sublime vistas. We are at another such juncture in the road today. Some hard choices will be made, but we can, in faith of how we’ve been led from above before, be assured that what lies beyond is not only what we need but leads to greater fulfillment and joy.

A New Beginning

In but a few weeks it will be ten years from the time Box 300 was first opened (June of 1981) and that first wave of desperate letters started pouring in asking for help. When the Chicago conference rolls around in July, it will have been ten years from the historic meeting in our garage where SAs from over the U.S. joined together for the first time and came to one mind and spirit in formulating the principles of our SA Program.
