What’s Going On in SA

The following information comes from the meetings of the SA Board of Trustees, the General Delegate Assembly, and the SA Business Meeting (called “SA Today” at the conference; audio tape of the same name available from Glenn K Audio Tapes):
Terms of office were set for the first Delegate Assembly so that only half of the Assembly would be elected at any one time. Lots were drawn to decide whose term would be two years and whose term three years.
In order to be more effective in the task of the Twelfth Step and First Tradition of carrying the message to the suffering sexaholic, the fellowship appointed the General Service Board committee in July 1991, during the Chicago International Conference Business Meeting, to recommend a service structure appropriate for Sexaholic Anonymous.
The Board of Trustees met on Thursday, July 11, and again on Friday with the General Delegate Assembly. Several housekeeping issues were settled first, dealing with the length of service for trustees and delegates. In order to comply with the pending Bylaws, several members resigned dual positions to make room for more representation.
Two duly, newly elected bodies of SA share similar names, the Oversight Assembly and the Oversight Committee. This has resulted in confusion on the part of the members and those dealing with these two bodies.
The new service committee structure calls for four non-sexaholic trustees, or “Overseers,” who will serve with the five elected sexaholic members who together will constitute the Oversight Committee. This procedure follows closely the example of the AA General Service Board comprising both alcoholic and non-alcoholic trustees.
Sexaholics Anonymous observed a major milestone in the convocation of the first Oversight Assembly on Friday, January 12, 1996. In attendance, were SA members with at least three years of sobriety, elected, or drawn, from the eight geographical regions: Northwest, Southwest, North-Midwest, South-Midwest, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and International. Mike B., chair of the Service Structure Committee, provided the guiding hand in opening the meeting and providing continuity to this historic event.
Dear SA Intergroups: This is an announcement of SA’s First Annual Oversight Assembly to be held January 12, 1996 at 2:00 PM, at the Freedom Conference in Phoenix. The location of the meeting will be in your conference program.
We want to get the word out that most SA literature is now available in Spanish (see Order Form at back). The translations have been made over the years through the outstanding contributions of several, but in particular, one, of our members. Most of the Spanish-speaking world does not know all this literature is available, so help open the door by spreading the word.
