Je participe au programme depuis 2010. J’ai pu rester sobre pendant 13 ans et je suis reconnaissant qu’on m’ait demandé d’écrire un article sur les hommes et les femmes de la communauté.

Il y a un dicton qui dit : « Le rétablissement est une paix et une sérénité au milieu de la tempête ». Et Priscilla a connu de nombreuses tempêtes. Aujourd’hui, après plus de 30 ans de sobriété sexuelle, elle dispose d’outils pour garder le cap pendant les tempêtes.

Je suis sobre depuis le 7 janvier 2023. Ce jour-là, j’ai pris un vol pour l’Afrique du Sud (SA), et j’ai donc littéralement voyagé vers une nouvelle vie depuis lors. Dieu a un sens de l’humour incroyable !

Il y a un an, j’ai ressenti de l’appréhension en entrant dans ma première réunion Zoom parce qu’elle était mixte. J’avais une question : Comment rester sobre parmi les hommes ? Ce qui m’a rassurée d’emblée, c’est la façon dont les membres incluaient leur date de sobriété lorsqu’ils se présentaient.

When I first came to SA and heard about mixed meetings (with both men and women), I thought, if everyone has the same brain as me, it’s gonna be quite a party!

I have been in the program since 2010. I have been allowed to be sober for 13 years and am grateful to have been asked to write an article about men and women in the community.

There’s a saying, “Recovery is peace and serenity in the midst of the storm.” And Priscilla has known many storms. Today, after more than 30 years of sexual sobriety, she has tools to stay the course during storms.

I’ve been sober since January 7, 2023. That day I took a flight to South Africa (SA), so I literally traveled to a new life since then. God has an amazing sense of humor!

A year ago, I felt apprehensive when I entered my first Zoom meeting because it was mixed. I had a question: How do I stay sober amongst men? What reassured me from the outset was the way the fellows included their sobriety dates when they introduced themselves. But I had no choice in the matter – I had to overcome my fears and keep coming back in order to learn how to stay sober and deepen my recovery, which I did; I continued to attend daily hybrid meetings on Zoom, plus a weekly women-only meeting.

The 2-day online event, “By Faith and By Works” on March 9 & 10, 2024 was a first-time collaboration effort between the Good Neighbors Committees from both regions.

הגעתי ל”אלכוהוליסטים אנונימיים” לפני כארבע שנים. עד אזלא ידעתי שאני מכורה. הקש ששבר את גב הגמל היה שהתחלתי לחשוב על התאבדות כל יום. אחרי שהשתמשתי לא יכולתי להרגיש טוב, פשוט הרגשתי כאב חזק ולא ידעתי מה לעשות עם זה ואיך לעזור לעצמי. התפללתי שאלוהים ייתן לי מוצא מהאובססיה שלי.

בחברותא, אנחנו שומעים הרבה על שינוי. תפילת השלווה שלנו מדברת על ה”אומץ לשנות”. בתחילת הדרך, חברים מפוכחים מספרים לנו שיש להגיע ל”נכונות” כדי לשנות. אבל מה זה בעצם שינוי, במונחים של החברותא ומפוכחות?

כשהייתי חבר חדש בחברותא, שמעתי דבר שגרם לי לצחוק ”אני נרקיסיסט שמתעב את עצמי”. חשבתי שזה מצחיק, אבל בו זמנית רציתי לבכות בגלל שההצהרה הזו היא באמת נכונה לגבי. אני סקסוהוליסט והרווחתי בדין את הכיסא שלי בSA. יש לי מחלה פאטלית, חשוכת מרפא ומתקדמת, מחלת נפש אמיתית. בנס בלתי מובן, התוכנית עזרה לי למצוא את דרכי לכוח העליון שהחזיר אותי לשפיות. אכן, כל מה שיש לי הוא למעשה דחייה מותנית רק להיום של המחלה הרוחנית שלי, אך זה עצמו נס מוחלט בעבורי. החלק האחר של הסיפור שלי הוא שאני הר געש מתפרץ. השנאה העצמית שלי הובילה אותי לכעסים בדרכים שהלכתי שהיו קרובים למוות וכן לנסיונות אובדנות ממשיים.

I started coming to Sexaholics Anonymous at the beginning of 2019. I had experience in other recovery fellowships, so I already trusted the 12-Step approach. Thanks to AA, my father got sober for the first time in his life in 1995, and even though he had relapsed before he passed away, I already knew for sure that the Program worked.

“Keep it simple”—how profound and how difficult. When I came to SA I looked for that special something that would knock my socks off and catapult me into sobriety. How disappointed I was when my sponsor said, “I’m not keeping any secret tools from you; the experience I have I have shared with you; there are no bunnies in the hat.”

Last October, the Seventh Convention of SA Mexico was held in the city of Tuxtla Gutierrez. The convention was attended by 47 SA members and 13 S-Anon members; for several participants this was their first convention and their comments are below. We, the organizers, thank the Higher Power (God as each one conceives Him) for this experience that was so important in our recovery.
